Button - Penitentiaries Canada by Carlyle (version 2)

Button - Penitentiaries Canada by Carlyle (version 2)

This button follows the Victorian "Penitentiaries Canada" design by Thomas Carlyle, London with the exception of the obvious change in the crown from the "Queen's" or "St. Edward's" pattern to that commonly known as the "King's" or Tudor Crown. The early designs of this type of "Penitentiaries Canada" button can be distinguished from later versions by the finely, horizontally-lined background, and the inner circle around the crown in the design. The button appears in brass as well as in a darker bronze tone.
