Penitentiary Musuem FAQ
General Questions Is the museum accessible?

The museum is partially accessible to the main floor via a wheelchair ramp. Most exhibits are on this level. Public washrooms are also accessible. Designated accessibility parking spaces are available adjacent to the building.

There is now an accessibility kiosk with an interactive touch-screen so that visitors can view the second floor without necessarily having to climb the stairs. The kiosk also allows access to limited sections of the CSC website.

Is there a gift shop?

The "Keeper's Cache" Gift Shop is open!

Are services available for researchers?

While the museum does maintain a small archive relating to federal penitentiaries, there are no public research facilities available on site. Researchers are requested to contact the museum, and staff will fill out a "research request form" to be submitted to the museum's Research Service. Requests are answered on a first come first served basis. Museum staff will endeavour to locate any relevant information, however response times vary and a modest fee is applicable

Are public tours of Kingston Penitentiary available?

No. Kingston Penitentiary is a functioning maximum-security correctional facility. Public tours of KP cannot be accommodated for safety, security and privacy reasons.
